MANILA – Twenty policemen have so far tested positive for use of illegal drugs, the Philippine National Police said Tuesday.

Five of those who tested positive are from Luzon, six are from the Visayas, and nine from Mindanao, PNP Crime Laboratory director Chief Supt. Emmanuel Aranas told reporters.
A total of 22,238 policemen have been tested for illegal drugs since May 9. This figure is expected to rise as data from the regions come in.
Aranas said the 20 policemen who tested positive for illegal drugs had taken confirmatory tests. The highest-ranking cop who tested positive for illegal drugs is a Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4).
Policemen who tested positive for illegal drugs have 15 days to contest the results.
''Ang gagamitin ditong urine is the very same urine na sinubmit na nag-positive. There is no such thing as same specimen,'' he said.
''Sasabihin ng iba na they are under medication or false positive. Pero the moment na magkaroon ng confirmatory test, iyon na 'yon. That's it."
Aranas also vouched for the accuracy of both the initial and confirmatory tests. He said about 80,000 test kits have been released nationwide so far.
He said the PNP sees to it that drug tests are conducted randomly. He said immediate superiors will be the one to come up with directives for the policemen who tested positive for illegal drugs.
The nationwide drug testing for policemen came immediately after President Rodrigo Duterte won the election on a platform of eradicating crime and illegal drugs.
The tough-talking leader earlier alleged that 5 police generals, two of whom already retired from service, were coddling drug syndicates.
