Former President Benigno Aquino III will not be attending President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 25, Politiko has learned.
Aquino has already sent his regrets to the organizers since he will not show up at the event.
The former President did not give any reason for his absence.
All living Presidents— Aquino, incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Fidel Ramos— have been invited to Duterte’s first SONA, which will take place at Batasang Pambansa.
Seats have been reserved for them in the middle gallery of the session hall, although Arroyo can sit with other lawmakers at the plenary floor.
A total of 3,000 invitations have been sent out for Duterte’s first address before a joint session of Congress.
