Sen. Aquilino Martin Pimentel III is now the Senate President, taking over the post from longtime serving leader Sen. Franklin Drilon.
Pimentel was voted by 20 senators who will also be now belonging to the majority.
It was Senator Vicente Sotto III who nominated the senator from Cagayan de Oro and a son of former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III.
In a show of sportsmanship, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri seconded the motion a move seen that the former political enemies have buried the hatchet.
Sen. Ralph Recto was elected as minority leader, joining Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Chiz Escudero.
