Former PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) chief Dionisio Santiago explained why President Rodrigo Duterte revealed the names of five PNP (Philippine National Police) generals who are allegedly involved in illegal drugs trade. He also gave his opinion why the president decided to give VP Leni Robredo a cabinet position. Watch video below.
In an exclusive interview with Njel de Mesa of NDM Studios via ‘Usapang Duterte‘, retired Gen. Dionisio Santiago was asked about his opinion on President Duterte’s appointment to VP Robredo as head of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC). The vice president is to set attend Duterte’s cabinet meeting this Monday, Jully 11.
According to Santiago, who ran for senator in the recent 2016 elections but lost, the usual role of the vice president is to only act as a spare tire. Nevertheless, he noted that President Duterte wanted to unify the government, regardless of political party and ideology, adding that VP Robredo’s appointment is an opportunity to show her leadership skills.
De Mesa then mentioned the 5 police generals that President Duterte has accused of being drug lord protectors. They are retired Police Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo, retired general and now Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot, Gen. Bernardo Diaz, Gen. Joel Pagdilao, and Gen. Edgardo Tinio. All of them have already denied the accusations.
Santiago, who was also once the Director of the New Bilibid Prisons, admitted that he personally know Mayor Loot when he was the Armed Forces Visayas Command (Viscom) chief, He added that he earned some former men of the then-general when he became the PDEA chief, which one of them died along with others during an anti-drug operation.

Nevertheless, Santiago said there were stories about police officers allegedly involved in illegal drugs but there no sufficient evidences, and are therefore hard to prove. He said he is not amused that it is only that the PNP is acting seriously against illegal drugs, noting that he has already submitted names of alleged drug lord protectors 6 years ago, but nothing happened.
