  • The plane was carrying 282 passengers and 18 crew members, but there were no reported injuries
  • The incident has resulted into hours-long delay on Wednesday

An Emirates Airlines carrying 300 people on board has reportedly crash-landed at Dubai airport on Wednesday, August 3.

Flight EK-521 has just arrived from Thiruvananthapuram, India and was on its final approach towards the Dubai International Airport runway when the incident happened.

Some reports said the plane’s retracting landing gear failed to come out while others claimed one of the engines fell out after it caught fire before the touch down.

The airline confirmed the incident and said all the 282 passengers and 18 crew members were evacuated to safety.

However, emergency firefighters failed to save the Boeing 777-300 with registration A6-EMW and is believed to have completely burned down.

“Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time,” the airline said in a statement.
Photographs taken by passengers from another plane showed the aircraft skidding after hitting the tarmac before resting on one of its wings.
Thick smoke then started coming out of the plane as it drew to a halt before an explosion was observed in near its right wing.
A statement from the Dubai Media Office said there were no injuries reported.
“Authorities at Dubai International Airport are dealing with the incident at the moment to ensure safety of all,” the statement read.
The airline added it is now extending “full cooperation” to the airport authorities and emergency services in managing the situation.
Meanwhile, the accident has resulted into four hours delay after all departing flights were temporarily suspended and incoming flights diverted.
