Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista faced controversy after his approval to establish a mandatory reproductive health education in the curriculum of high school students during a health board meeting.
Despite the Catholic Church' strong opposition, Bautista have directed 46 public schools in the city to teach reproductive health education starting the next school year in 2017.
The government of the said city have given out free condoms to high school students as part of the project, which directed that as part of the health education supplies as such would be given out. The city governance vowed to promote the use of condom in the fight against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) at sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
However, the internet have been divided, others commended the act saying it was about time that we have accepted this generation's reality, it was a good act of prevention. Although those who reacted condemned the act expressing their disappointment saying it was a clear indication of the government's tolerance to the youth's deteriorating values.
