This will be the second time Ramos spoke ill after the current administration breached 100 days, he likened the entire country to vessel that he called, Ship Pilipinas. Only it’s a ship that sounds dangerously close to sinking.
“Because we are all together onboard Ship Pilipinas – which is still leaky and slow-moving, because of internal strife and disunity, we all need to pull an oar or plug a leak (instead of adding more holes),” he wrote.
Ramos also crossed his fingers that the ship’s occupants knew how to swim, as if bracing for something worse.
“ALSO, ALL PASSENGERS MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM – IF THEY ARE TO SURVIVE IN CASE OUR SHIP SINKS. WHAT ABOUT LITTLE CHILDREN AND BABIES?? PATAY (DEAD)!!!” he wrote, using uppercase letters for emphasis.
Last week, FVR described the first 100 days of the Duterte administration “a huge disappointment and let-down”. He also said in his headline-grabbing piece that the Philippines is “losing and losing badly” under the controversial Duterte.
Ramos on Sunday offered insights on what “Digong” should do to put the Philippines back on track.
“TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE, THIS WRITER BELIEVES THAT CONFRONTED WITH MANY SERIOUS CONCERNS, PRESIDENT DIGONG IS LIKE A JUGGLER, BALANCING AND KEEPING ALOFT AT LEAST TEN BALLS, WHICH ARE TRANSNATIONAL PROBLEMS.
But, as Chief Executive and Commander-in-Chief, he must perform with greater agility and competence than the ordinary circus juggler handling hot potatoes while on a tightwire 100 meters up, catching and managing the balls in a calm, harmonious manner, and not drop any in the process,” he said.
The bottom line, Ramos reckoned, is that captain Duterte can’t fix Ship Pilipinas by his lonesome.
“DU30 CANNOT DO IT ALONE. NETHER CAN THE GOVERNMENT DO IT ALONE. BUT WHEN ALL OF US STRIVE TOGETHER WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND, AND ABIDE BY THE SAME PRECIOUS VALUES AND COMMITMENTS – WE BECOME A STRONG NATION, ABLE TO ACHIEVE THE HIGHER QUALITY OF LIFE WE HAVE ALWAYS YEARNED FOR – IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF ENDURING PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.”
