Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte led the ground breaking ceremony of the Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for drug dependents on December 6, Tuesday.

The world-class 1.9 hectare rehabilitation center, is jointly funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Resorts World Manila.

According to Kingson U Sian, the President of Resorts World Philippines Cultural Heritage Foundation, they have chosen Davao City as the site for the rehabilitation center project since the war on drugs all started in the city.
Everytime people ask me why Davao City, I always answer them with another question — why not? I mean it all started here,” said Sian.

The P350 million rehabilitation center has a floor plan of seven thousand square meters with 224 beds, dining area and visiting area.
The bigger drug treatment center was built to complement the existing rehabilitation center in Bago Oshiro which has only a maximum capacity of 100 people.

Mayor Duterte expressed high hopes that building rehabilitation centers would help them to effectively win the war against drugs.
Today, we break ground on the future site of a facility that will enable us to help more drug dependents win of their destructive habits so that they may return from their families as renewed individuals, move forward with their lives and contribute to nation building,” said Mayor Duterte.

The construction of the new rehab center is expected to be finished by December 2017.
