The Mayor of Davao in the Philippines, Sara Duterte-Carpio, popularly known as Inday Sara, has won the inaugural edition of the prestigious President Jose Eduardo dos Santos World Best Mayor Award.
Inday Sara won the large cities category award which went with a cash prize of $200,000 and a certificate as part of the Second World Urban Infrastructure Investment Forum held in Bronx, New York on Sunday, January 15.
Receiving the award, Inday Sara expressed her appreciation to the people of Davao, the current President of Philippines who doubles as her father, Rodrigo Duterte, and entire Filipinos for giving her the opportunity to serve the good people of the Philippines.
“This award will be an inspiration to move the city of Davao and indeed the Philippines forever forward, contributing to the development of Asia.”
Inday Sara said it has always been the commitment of the leadership and her staff to do well to contribute to the better Philiipines agenda, and as such policies and decisions taken by her office continue to get international recognition.
She said winning the award was a signature of excellence which must remind the people of Davao that they were doing well but “must work harder in order to make Davao a place all of us will love to stay in.”
